Due to COVID-19 and the global pandemic students everywhere have suffered to progress in education. The current "digital divide" in America is placing millions of students behind within education. Many children have suffered tremendously in regard to technology and connectivity to internet. The digital and technology divide is not a new phenomenon facing school-aged children of color and children experiencing poverty. Millions of American students won't be heading back to the classroom this spring, at least not full time. From Los Angeles to New York, remote learning will continue into the New Year. "That leaves a staggering number of students at risk of falling behind or dropping out. Up to 30% of school aged children — as many as 16 million American kids — lack internet access or laptops for online learning the Boston Consulting Group warned." (CNN 2020) Marshall's Dream has witnessed firsthand the result of children who lack adequate technology and internet capabilities. Students have fell behind tremendously and it will create long term negative effects if our educational institutions cannot holistically address this issue.
Our Solution
Marshall's Dream has developed the "$2 for Texas Technology Program" to raise funding, awareness and resources to close the "digital divide" amongst impoverished students in Texas, beginning in Dallas Fort Worth. We want to provide laptops, tablets and educational tools to close this educational divide amongst disadvantaged youth. In our efforts to provide technology we will also provide food and clothing for the students and families in need of these resources. Marshall's Dream has set a goal to grant 9,000 students with technology within Dallas Texas over the next 12 to 18 months. These technologies will provide Microsoft Office and additional application to expedite the learning capabilities of students within developing areas beginning in Dallas Texas.
